1) Es kann genetisch bedingt sein rührt aber auf jedenfall davon, dass
2) die Schwänze absichtlich abgeschnitten werden und zwar
2.1) weil manche Chinesen Katzen mit kurzen Schwänzen ästhetischer finden und
2.2) manche sogar Katzenschwänze essen

I think it's because some people prefer short-tail cats so they cut the tail when the cats were younger but also maybe because they are deformed.
If you notice some of the stray cats even have their left ear snipped to show that they have been sterilised.
My cat has short stubbly tail too...my dog a mini schnauser comes with a long tail originally but had his tail cut when he was young. In Australia, it is now illegal to cut the tail of the dog. So any imported dogs from Australia with long tail will have their long tails still.
Yes, this is actually also what I heard. They cut the tail consciously.
I googled for it and unfortunately I didn't find anything except for the solution proposals for the Indonesian "short cat tail" problem:
1) Because the evil people of Indonesia cut them off. For fun.
2) It's a genetic defect caused by inbreeding.
3) Because the weird people of Jakarta cut them off. For aesthetic purposes.
4) Because they fall asleep on the roads and cars run over their tails.
5) The large number of strays leads to large numbers of particularly vicious catfights, in which tails are lost.
6) The maid shut the door on their tail.
7) Children put elastic bands around their tails when they were kittens.
8) Jakarta's monster rats prey on stray kittens, preferring the tail as a delicacy.
9) An ancient queen put her wedding ring around her cat's tail for some unknown (but presumably tragic) reason. All Indonesian cats are descended from this regal (but truncated) feline. This story can be eliminated due to Lamarckian evolution being disproved in the 19th century.
10) They want to be as cool as Hello Kitty, who has a tiny stub tail.

But, well ok, non of them seems to be the really solution. I cannot understand that so many cat tails are cut just for aestetic purposes?! As I wrote this post I was of the opinion that Chinese ppl like cat tails as delicacy.. (like bull balls)

I tried to download ad-aware after I got infected, but it will not let me open or download ANY antivirus software to quarantine or remove this spyware virus.
